Intersection Crashes at Rural Highway Crossroads
Intersections controlled by stop signs can present significant risks, particularly when highways like MO-6 carry through traffic. Drivers approaching from side roads must come to a complete stop and ensure the roadway is clear before entering or crossing.
When a vehicle fails to stop, the resulting collision often impacts the side of another vehicle, increasing the likelihood of severe damage. Rural intersections may also have limited visibility due to terrain or roadside features.
Older drivers may face added challenges with reaction time and visibility at busy crossings. Careful attention to traffic control signs and scanning both directions before proceeding can help reduce the risk of similar crashes at highway intersections.
