Habersham County, GA (January 15, 2026) – Two drivers were injured in a serious two-vehicle crash that temporarily blocked Duncan Bridge Rd (GA 384) near Cherry Circle during the busy morning commute. Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 5:00 a.m. to assist the injured and clear the wreckage.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the collision occurred when a southbound Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by 44-year-old Eric Jones of Cleveland, crossed the solid double yellow centerline to pass another vehicle while navigating a curve on a grade. Jones reportedly returned to the southbound lane but lost control of the vehicle, which then veered back into the northbound lane.
The front driver side of the Mitsubishi struck the front driver side of a GMC Yukon driven by 69-year-old George Barnes of McDonough. Following the impact, the Mitsubishi careened off onto the west shoulder, hitting a ditch before coming to an uncontrolled stop. The GMC Yukon was pushed backward, partially onto the east shoulder, where it struck a guardrail and came to rest.
Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by local EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation and has not yet issued any charges or citations related to the wreck.
Our thoughts are with Eric Jones and George Barnes as they recover from their injuries.
