Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Involving Bicyclists Are Especially Dangerous
Bicyclists face serious risks on roadways because they lack the protection found in passenger vehicles. Even a moderate-speed collision with a car can result in severe or fatal injuries.
When a driver leaves the scene after striking a bicyclist, emergency response can be delayed if witnesses are not immediately present. Quick medical attention can be critical for improving survival chances after a serious crash.
Roadways without dedicated bike lanes may increase the risk of collisions when bicycles and motor vehicles share the same travel space. Visibility at night can also affect how quickly drivers notice cyclists ahead of them.
These factors can make hit-and-run incidents involving bicycles particularly dangerous for those traveling on two wheels.
