Why Bicycle Crashes at Neighborhood Intersections Can Cause Serious Injuries
Bicyclists are especially vulnerable during collisions because they have little physical protection compared to drivers inside vehicles. Even lower-speed impacts in residential or suburban areas can lead to serious injuries for riders.
Neighborhood intersections often involve turning vehicles, parked cars, and limited visibility that may reduce reaction time for both drivers and bicyclists. Morning traffic activity can also increase the risk of crashes near residential communities.
After bicycle accidents, investigators commonly review roadway positioning, visibility conditions, and vehicle movement to determine how the collision occurred. Damage to the bicycle and evidence from the nearby roadway may also help establish the sequence of events.
