Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles frequently suffer head trauma, broken bones, internal injuries and spinal damage, since they have no structure around them to absorb the impact.
What are the most common causes of pedestrian accidents?
Driver inattention, failure to yield, speeding and poor visibility at night are common factors, along with drivers leaving the scene before responsibility can be determined.
How does vehicle speed affect pedestrian survival?
Higher vehicle speeds reduce a driver's ability to stop in time and increase the force of impact, which lowers a pedestrian's chance of surviving a crash.
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many pedestrian crashes occur on roadways away from marked crosswalks or intersections, especially during darker, low-visibility hours.
