Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes motorcycle crashes like this one?
Many motorcycle collisions happen when a vehicle ahead slows, stops, or turns unexpectedly and the rider has too little space or time to react. Rear-end crashes often come down to following distance and reaction time.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than car crashes?
Riders have no frame, doors, or airbags around them, so a crash that a car's occupants might walk away from can throw a rider off the bike and onto the pavement or into another vehicle.
How do left-turning vehicles end up colliding with motorcycles?
A car turning left across or into a lane can misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance because of its smaller profile, cutting into the rider's path with little warning.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles before turning or merging?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice, taking an extra second before turning, and remembering that a motorcycle can be closer than it appears all help drivers avoid pulling into a rider's path.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Accident in Hesperia, CA
Anyone involved in a motorcycle crash should get checked by a medical provider even if injuries seem minor at first, since some, like head or internal injuries, aren't always obvious right away. Keep photos of the scene, the vehicles, and the road if it's safe to do so, and get the names of any witnesses before they leave. Request a copy of the CHP or local police report once it's filed, and hold onto any medical records or bills tied to the crash. Taking these steps early makes it easier to sort out what happened later.
