What Can Happen When a Police Pursuit Ends in a Crash?
High-speed police pursuits can create significant risks because vehicles may travel at elevated speeds while drivers make rapid decisions in changing traffic conditions. When a pursuit ends in a collision, emergency crews must address injuries while law enforcement also works to secure the scene and determine what happened.
Investigators may review vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness accounts, and available surveillance footage to reconstruct the crash. They may also examine the events leading up to the collision, including the route of the pursuit and the actions of the vehicles involved.
