Bronx, NY (August 19, 2026) — A cyclist died on Tuesday night, August 18, after a hit-and-run wreck involving multiple vehicles on Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx’s Longwood section, according to police. It happened just before 9:30 p.m.
Police said a driver in a BMW heading south on Bruckner Boulevard struck two parked cars before hitting 51-year-old Angelo Camara, who was riding his bike. The BMW then struck a Hyundai Sonata traveling east, pushing it into a parked Volkswagen.
The BMW’s driver fled afterward, police said. Camara was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sonata’s driver, a 38-year-old woman, was hospitalized and listed in stable condition.
Police have not released the identity of the driver, and no arrests have been made as of this report. Our thoughts are with Camara’s family during this difficult time.

Riding slightly farther from parked cars, checking mirrors periodically for erratic vehicle behavior, and staying alert to unusual engine noise or sudden movement nearby can help a cyclist notice trouble a moment sooner. Even so, this kind of fast-developing chain reaction remains largely outside what any cyclist can predict or avoid on their own.
