Santa Fe Springs, CA (May 24, 2026) – A hit-and-run with injuries was reported early Sunday morning, May 24, at the intersection of Carmenita Rd and Florence Ave in Santa Fe Springs. Dispatch records show the call came in around 6:39 a.m. after a white Mercedes SUV was reportedly blocking lanes near the northbound side of Carmenita Road.
Emergency units arrived shortly afterward and temporarily shut down the left-turn lane and the number one northbound lane while crews cleared debris from the roadway. One vehicle was later removed from the intersection by a tow truck. Traffic lanes reopened later in the morning after cleanup efforts were completed.
The extent of the injuries was not released in the initial report. The people involved in the crash had not been publicly identified as of Sunday evening.
Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the hit-and-run and who may have fled the roadway afterwards. We hope those affected by the roadway collision recover quickly.
Why Lane Closures Often Follow Hit-and-Run Crashes
Temporary lane closures are common after hit-and-run crashes, especially at busy intersections. Crews may need extra time to remove disabled vehicles, clear debris, and document roadway evidence before traffic can safely resume. Even minor damage can create hazards for nearby drivers when cars block travel lanes or fluids remain on the pavement.
In injury-related cases, roadway reviews may also include examining traffic camera footage, skid marks, and vehicle parts left behind. These details can help piece together how the crash unfolded and whether another driver left before exchanging information. Intersections with multiple turn lanes often require additional traffic control because cleanup work can affect visibility and normal driving patterns during peak travel hours.
