Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Can Delay Emergency Assistance
Hit-and-run crashes can create added challenges because investigators may initially have limited information about the driver or vehicle that left the roadway. Witness accounts, surveillance footage, and vehicle debris are often used to help piece together what happened and identify those involved.
Intersections are common locations for these collisions because several vehicles may be moving through the roadway at the same time from different directions. Late-night and early morning traffic conditions can also reduce visibility for drivers and witnesses. In serious crashes, quick medical attention is especially important, as some injuries may worsen over time even if symptoms are not immediately obvious at the roadway.
