The marked unit was responding to assist in a pursuit with its lights and siren activated when the impact caused it to flip and roll nearly a full city block.
The officer and the K-9 were both taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said neither suffered serious injuries. The Jeep driver’s condition was not immediately released.
The crash remains under active review, and additional details are expected as the investigation continues.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Is Usually Reviewed After a Police Unit Rollover Crash?
After a rollover involving an emergency vehicle, early reviews often focus on traffic signal timing, vehicle speed, and whether emergency lights and sirens were active. These details help build a clearer timeline of how the collision happened, especially at busy intersections.
Scene photos, roadway markings, and damage patterns are also commonly examined. In rollover crashes, the distance a vehicle travels after impact can offer useful clues about the force of the collision and the angle of contact. Medical evaluations may also help confirm whether seatbelts, airbags, and other safety systems reduced harm to the people and animals inside the vehicle.
Because K-9 units carry specialized equipment, the condition of the interior cabin and restraint setup may also provide added context about how both the officer and police dog were protected during the crash.
