Collisions involving school buses usually involve factors such as distracted driving, failure to yield, or drivers not stopping for a bus that is loading or unloading. Investigators determine the specific cause case by case.
How does speed affect the severity of a crash?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which tends to result in more serious injuries and vehicle damage.
What injuries are most common in vehicle collisions?
Common injuries include whiplash, cuts and bruises, broken bones, and head or neck injuries, depending on the speed and angle of impact.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Houston, TX
If you're involved in a crash near a school zone or bus route in Houston, move to a safe location if possible and call 911 right away. Even if injuries seem minor, it's wise to get checked by a medical professional, since some injuries, especially to the head or neck, aren't obvious right away. Exchange information with the other driver, take photos of the scene if you're able, and wait for responding officers to file a report. If a school bus was involved, there may also be a separate report from the school district's police department, so ask how to obtain a copy for your records.
