Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do after a crash involving a commercial truck?
Call 911, move to safety if possible, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor. Get the names of witnesses and the responding agency's report number, since commercial vehicle crashes usually involve a company and insurer in addition to the driver.
Why do large trucks need more distance to stop than cars?
Trucks carry much more weight and sit higher off the road, so their brakes and tires need more time and distance to bring that weight to a stop, especially when loaded.
What makes crashes with trucks or heavy vehicles more severe?
The size and weight difference between a truck and a passenger car means the car and its occupants usually absorb most of the impact, which can lead to more serious injuries than a crash between two similar-sized vehicles.
What are a truck's blind spots, and why do they matter?
Large trucks have wide blind spots along both sides, directly behind, and close in front of the cab. Drivers in those areas may not be visible to the truck driver, so it's safer to pass quickly and avoid lingering alongside a truck.
