HUNTSVILLE, Madison County, Ala., Sept. 20, 2026 — A motorcyclist died on Saturday morning, September 19, following a crash with a dump truck on Hwy 431 in Huntsville.
The Madison County Coroner's Office identified the man who died as 36-year-old Matt Kimbrel. Authorities said he had once played in the Atlanta Braves minor league system and is the brother of former Braves pitcher Craig Kimbrel.
Huntsville police and HEMSI crews responded to the area of Hwy 431 and Cove Commons Drive around 8 a.m. Kimbrel was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the coroner's office said.
According to Huntsville Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit, the motorcycle was headed northbound on Hwy 431 at a high rate of speed when a dump truck began turning onto Cove Commons Drive. Investigators said the motorcycle was unable to stop and slid into the truck, and no criminal charges are expected in connection with the crash.
