Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes crashes like this one?
Lane departures, following too closely, distraction, and misjudged speed are among the most common factors investigators look at in multi-vehicle crashes, though a specific cause is only confirmed after a full review.
Why does speed make a crash more serious?
Higher speed requires more distance to stop or steer away from danger and increases the force of any impact, raising the risk of serious injury.
How dangerous is distracted driving?
Taking eyes or attention off the road for even a few seconds can prevent a driver from reacting in time to a vehicle crossing lanes or slowing ahead, which is why distraction is a frequent factor in these reports.
Do weather or road conditions play a role?
Wet, icy, or poorly lit roads can reduce traction and visibility, making it harder to correct a vehicle's path or stop safely, though conditions at the time of a specific crash aren't always detailed in initial reports.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Idaho Falls, ID
If you're involved in a crash on a highway like I-15, move to a safe area if possible and turn on hazard lights to warn oncoming traffic. Call 911 and wait for law enforcement to document the scene, even if injuries seem minor at first. Some injuries, especially from side-impact collisions, don't show symptoms right away, so a medical evaluation soon after the crash is worth getting. Keep a copy of the police report and any medical records in case you need them later, and reach out to your insurance company to start the claims process. Idaho Falls has hospitals and urgent care clinics well equipped to assess trauma from highway crashes, so don't hesitate to get checked out.
