Calumet, WI (June 15, 2026) – A teenage passenger died, and four other teens were injured following a single-vehicle rollover along Highway HH in the Town of Calumet on Saturday, June 13.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:17 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a rollover near W1951 Highway HH. Investigators said a sport utility vehicle was traveling west when it failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a culvert and driveway, became airborne, hit a utility pole, and overturned.
A 17-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released pending notification of family members. The 16-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Another 15-year-old passenger was flown to Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee for treatment. A second 15-year-old passenger was taken by family members to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for evaluation. A 14-year-old passenger was not injured and was released to a parent.
Officials believe impairment contributed to the wreck. The 16-year-old Sheboygan girl driving the SUV was arrested on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Crash reconstruction specialists continue to review evidence gathered from the roadway.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends mourning the loss of the young passenger.
How Suspected Impairment Can Affect Serious Rollover Crashes
When impairment is believed to be a factor in a rollover, investigators review driver behavior before the vehicle left the roadway. Evidence such as witness accounts, vehicle movement, and physical markings on the pavement may help determine what occurred in the moments leading up to the overturn.
Rollover crashes can become especially severe when a vehicle strikes fixed objects such as culverts, driveways, utility poles, or embankments. These impacts can change a vehicle’s direction and increase the forces experienced by occupants. Investigators frequently examine each stage of the vehicle’s path to better understand how injuries occurred.
In cases involving young drivers, additional attention may be given to factors such as speed, roadway familiarity, visibility, and occupant protection. Vehicle damage patterns and reconstruction findings can help establish a timeline of the rollover and provide a clearer picture of the sequence of events before the vehicle came to rest.
