Why Large Vehicle Rollovers Require Caution and Extended Cleanup
Rollover crashes involving large trucks, such as garbage or utility vehicles, pose unique risks due to the size, weight, and contents of the vehicle. When these trucks overturn, even without trapping occupants, there’s potential for hazardous conditions like fuel leaks, debris, or blocked traffic lanes.
Emergency crews must secure the scene, assess structural damage to the truck, and determine whether additional equipment is needed for recovery. In many cases, cleanup efforts take significantly longer than typical vehicle crashes.
Investigators reviewing such incidents look into factors like speed, load weight, turns taken at intersections, and driver handling. Rollover prevention on commercial routes remains a key focus in efforts to improve roadway safety and protect both workers and the public.
