Irvine, CA (July 30, 2026) – A person was hurt in a hit-and-run along I-405 in Irvine on July 29 after a vehicle struck a motorcycle and fled the area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred in the northbound lanes of I-405 just south of Sand Canyon Avenue. The rider reported being in the high-occupancy vehicle lane when traffic ahead slowed. The motorcyclist swerved to avoid the vehicle in front, but the other driver also swerved, causing the two vehicles to collide before the driver left the freeway without stopping.
The rider managed to move to the right shoulder and requested medical assistance for scratches to the legs. Emergency units arrived shortly thereafter to assist. A witness identified the fleeing vehicle as a white Ford Fusion bearing a California license plate.
The cause of the hit-and-run remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
