What Challenges Do Investigators Face After a Hit-and-Run Crash?
Hit-and-run crashes can be more difficult to investigate than other roadway collisions because one party leaves before providing information. Early efforts often focus on identifying the vehicle involved through witness statements, surveillance footage, debris, and physical evidence left behind.
When multiple vehicles are involved, investigators may also examine vehicle damage patterns and roadway markings to determine the sequence of events. Temporary highway closures are common while evidence is documented and damaged vehicles are removed. Information gathered during the initial stages can help establish each vehicle’s movements and may assist in locating the driver who left the scene.
