Santa Clarita, CA (August 12, 2026) – On Monday, August 10, a motorcycle crash on northbound State Route 14 near Sand Canyon Road in Santa Clarita left a rider on the ground and caused a traffic disruption.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the crash involved a motorcycle and a gray SUV. A separate report stated that a white Toyota pickup truck cut off the motorcycle, causing the rider to collide with the vehicle before the Toyota left the scene.

Witness information indicated the motorcycle was entering the HOV lane when the truck swerved out of the lane. The motorcycle rider was found face down in the center divider and was reported to have an unknown extent of injuries.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded, and a tow truck was requested for the motorcycle and a Toyota Matrix. The available information did not confirm the severity of the rider’s injuries.

We wish the injured rider a swift recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Motorcycle Crashes?

Motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles, which can make them harder to see in heavy traffic and during lane changes. A motorcycle can also be affected quickly by sudden movements from nearby vehicles. Abrupt lane changes, failure to check blind spots, and cutting across another vehicle’s path are common situations that can create serious risks for motorcyclists.

Drivers should check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes and allow motorcycles enough space to react. Motorcyclists traveling near larger vehicles should also remain aware that trucks and SUVs may have larger blind spots. Traffic congestion can make these risks greater because vehicles have less room to maneuver.

On highways with HOV lanes, drivers should pay close attention to lane markings and surrounding traffic before moving between lanes. Maintaining a safe following distance gives both motorists and motorcyclists more time to respond to sudden changes. Careful lane positioning and predictable movements can help reduce the chance of a motorcycle crash.
