How Multiple-Vehicle Crashes Affect Interstate Traffic
Crashes involving several vehicles can quickly create major traffic disruptions on interstate highways. Blocked lanes may require drivers to slow down, change routes, or wait while emergency crews assist those involved and clear the roadway.
Investigators may review vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and other available evidence to understand how a multi-vehicle crash developed. High-speed roads can make these incidents more complex because drivers have less time to react when traffic patterns change suddenly.
