San Diego, CA (June 9, 2026) – Injuries were reported following a multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning, June 9, on southbound Interstate 5 near the Carmel Valley Road and State Route 56 interchange in San Diego.
The traffic accident was first reported around 1:15 a.m. and involved a semi-truck and at least two other vehicles. Initial reports indicated that lanes 1 and 2 were blocked, causing significant traffic congestion on the freeway.
A caller reported that a Nissan Altima had been rear-ended, and subsequent updates suggested that two to three vehicles were involved. Later communications indicated that a white Dodge Durango also struck the vehicles and came to rest on the right shoulder beneath the bypass roadway. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that some people had been injured, prompting a request for medical assistance.
Several lanes remained closed while emergency units worked to clear vehicles and restore traffic flow. The identities of those involved have not yet been released. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the freeway collision.
