How Intersections Can Increase Risks for Motorcyclists
Intersections are among the most common places for motorcycle traffic problems because several directions of travel meet at the same point. Drivers turning left or crossing through a roadway may have only a brief moment to notice an approaching bike, especially during busy afternoon travel periods.
Road speed, visibility, and spacing between vehicles can also affect how quickly motorists react. Even when protective gear is used, riders often face a greater chance of physical harm because motorcycles provide less protection than larger passenger vehicles. Investigators frequently review travel direction, roadway markings, vehicle placement, and witness accounts after this type of roadway encounter. Photos, surveillance footage, and vehicle damage can also help explain how the chain of actions developed before contact occurred.
