Why Center-Line Crossings Often Result in Severe Crashes
Crashes that occur after a vehicle moves into an opposing lane are often high-impact because both vehicles may still be traveling at speed. This type of collision can lead to major front-end damage and increase the chance of occupants becoming trapped inside.
Ejections are more likely when a person is not fully restrained or when the force of the crash is extreme. Being thrown from a vehicle greatly raises the risk of serious harm.
Road design, traffic speed, and driver reaction time all influence how these incidents unfold. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, tire marks, and debris patterns to determine how and where the lane crossing occurred.
