Jefferson Co, MO (January 15, 2026) – A rollover crash on US 61 left one man injured on Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson County. The incident, which involved two vehicles, occurred in the southbound lanes just north of Schmidt Rd around 1:16 p.m. on January 14.
Troopers from Missouri State Highway Patrol, including TPR. C. L. Kurtzman responded to the scene and conducted the initial investigation. A 2016 Kia Soul driven by an 80-year-old man from Crystal City was heading southbound when a 2023 Rivian EDV, which had been stopped on the shoulder, re-entered traffic and collided with the Kia. The impact caused the Kia to overturn in the roadway.
Emergency medical crews from the Joachim Plattin Ambulance District treated and transported the elderly driver to Mercy Hospital Jefferson with moderate injuries. He had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Rivian sustained moderate damage but was able to be driven from the scene. The Kia, however, was totaled and had to be removed by McCain’s Towing. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the Rivian re-entering traffic.
We extend our well wishes to the injured driver and hope for his swift recovery.
