What Actually Reduces Intersection Crashes
Engineering changes tend to outperform driver education alone when it comes to cutting intersection crashes. Roundabouts, protected turn signals, better signal timing and improved lighting have all been shown to lower both the frequency and severity of collisions at intersections, because they reduce the number of ways vehicles can cross paths at speed.
But road design only solves part of the problem. Impairment and fatigue remain persistent factors in intersection crashes because they slow the split-second judgment a driver needs to react to a changing light, a gap in traffic, or another vehicle's unexpected movement. A driver who is tired or impaired is less able to process those cues in time, even at an intersection with good sightlines and modern signals.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 17,008 motor-vehicle crash deaths occurred outside passenger vehicles in crashes involving passenger vehicles in 2023. That figure is a reminder that intersection safety depends on more than the people inside cars, it also reflects how roads are built and how alert the drivers using them are.

What to Do After a Car Accident in Jonesboro, AR
If you're involved in a crash, move to a safe spot if possible and check yourself and others for injuries before doing anything else. Call 911 so officers can document the scene and arrange medical help if needed, even if injuries seem minor at first.
Exchange information with the other driver and take photos of the vehicles, the road, and any visible damage. Seeking a medical evaluation soon afterward is worthwhile, since some injuries, like whiplash or concussions, don't show symptoms right away. Keep a copy of the police report for your records once it's available.
