Frequently Asked Questions

Why do trucks need so much distance to come to a stop?

Loaded semis weigh far more than passenger vehicles, and that extra weight means their brakes need much more distance and time to bring the truck to a halt, especially at highway speeds or in wet conditions.

What makes a crash involving a truck more dangerous than a typical car accident?

The size and weight difference between a semi and a passenger car means the smaller vehicle and its occupants absorb most of the impact, usually leading to more serious injuries even in lower-speed collisions.

What are a truck's blind spots, and why do they matter?

Semi-trucks have large blind spots along both sides, behind the trailer, and directly in front of the cab. Drivers in these zones may not be visible to the truck driver, which can contribute to lane-change and turning crashes.

What is an underride crash?

An underride crash happens when a smaller vehicle slides partly or fully beneath a truck's trailer during a collision, usually because the trailer sits higher off the ground than a car's frame.
