What Is Typically Examined in a Fatal Pedestrian Collision?
When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, investigators often work to determine the movements of both the person on foot and the driver in the moments before contact occurred. This process may involve reviewing roadway conditions, traffic controls, visibility, and witness accounts.
Physical evidence can also play a significant role. Damage to the vehicle, roadway markings, and the final positions of those involved may help establish a timeline of events. In some cases, nearby surveillance cameras or dashboard cameras can provide additional information.
Pedestrian collisions can occur in a variety of settings, including residential streets, commercial corridors, and busy urban roadways. Factors such as lighting conditions, traffic volume, and crossing patterns are commonly reviewed to help clarify how the fatal collision unfolded.
