Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are commonly seen after a two-car collision like this one?
Occupants often suffer broken bones, head and neck injuries, internal injuries and cuts from broken glass or impact with the vehicle interior. Severity depends on speed, point of impact and whether seatbelts or airbags were in use.
What usually causes crashes like this one?
Common factors include speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield, impaired driving and turning or lane-change errors. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, road conditions and witness statements to determine what happened.
Does speed make a difference in how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds mean more force at impact, which increases the likelihood of severe injury and makes vehicles harder to control before a crash.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Taking eyes or attention off the road for even a few seconds reduces a driver's ability to react to sudden stops, turns or obstacles, which can turn an avoidable situation into a collision.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Kailua, Hawaii
If you're involved in a crash, start by checking yourself and anyone with you for injuries, then move to a safe spot if possible. Call 911 so EMS and police can respond and document the scene. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional soon after, since some injuries, like concussions or internal bruising, don't show symptoms right away. Take photos of the vehicles and surroundings if you're able, and get contact information from anyone else involved or who witnessed what happened. Keep copies of any medical records, police reports and repair estimates in case you need them later. Give yourself time to recover, and lean on family or friends in Kailua for support while you do.
