Kearns, UT (March 10, 2026) – A fatal crash left a child dead and multiple others injured in Kearns.
The accident occurred shortly before Monday, March 9, near 4100 West and 5415 South. A family vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man rear-ended another car traveling westbound. A 17-year-old girl and her infant were also passengers in the vehicle.
Initially reported as a hit-and-run, the family car reportedly left the scene but returned shortly afterward. Emergency units transported the 23-year-old driver, who sustained lower-body injuries, to a hospital in fair condition. The infant, who had been critically injured, later died at the hospital. The child’s mother and the driver of the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital, with the other driver now stable but still in critical condition.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the infant.
How Rear-End Crashes Can Become Deadly
Rear-end collisions can be especially dangerous when passengers include young children. The force of impact can cause severe injuries to anyone not properly restrained, and infants are particularly vulnerable.
Investigators often review factors such as vehicle speed, braking, and road conditions to understand how the crash occurred. Seatbelt and car seat use, as well as passenger positions, are also examined to determine the severity of injuries.
Emergency responders are trained to prioritize victims based on the severity of injuries, which can include rapid transport to medical facilities when life-threatening trauma occurs.
