Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a vehicle roll over in a crash?
A rollover usually happens when a vehicle trips on something, such as a curb, soft shoulder, or another car, while moving sideways at speed, or when a sharp steering move shifts its weight enough to tip it. Higher speeds and sudden direction changes raise the odds.
Why do rollovers tend to cause serious injuries?
When a vehicle rolls, occupants can be thrown against the roof, windows, or each other, and anyone not belted in can be ejected. The cabin can also crush inward, reducing the space people have to ride out the impact.
Are some vehicles more likely to roll over than others?
Taller vehicles with a higher center of gravity, like SUVs, pickups, and vans, roll over more easily than low sedans, though any vehicle can roll under the right conditions.
Does wearing a seat belt matter in a rollover?
Yes. A seat belt keeps a person positioned inside the vehicle during the roll, which lowers the chance of being thrown around the cabin or ejected through a window or door.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Kendall West, FL
If you're involved in a rollover, stay as still as possible until you can check for pain or numbness before moving, since adrenaline can mask injuries right after a crash. Call 911 even if injuries seem minor, and let paramedics examine everyone involved at the scene. Get a copy of the official report once it's filed, and see a doctor in the days that follow if any soreness, stiffness, or headaches develop, since some injuries from a rollover don't show symptoms right away.
