Frequently Asked Questions
Does a vehicle's speed change a pedestrian's chance of survival?
Yes. The faster a vehicle is moving at impact, the greater the force transferred to the pedestrian, and the lower the odds of surviving without severe injury.
Where do most pedestrian crashes happen?
Many occur at or near intersections and roadway crossings, especially where a pedestrian crosses outside a marked crosswalk or a driver has limited visibility.
Are pedestrians more likely to be hit at night?
Reduced visibility after dark is a common factor in pedestrian crashes, since drivers have less time to see and react to someone in or near the roadway.
What should a pedestrian do after being struck by a vehicle?
Call 911 immediately, avoid moving if injury is suspected, and wait for police and medical responders to arrive and document the scene.
