How Alcohol-Impaired Driving Increases Crash Severity
Alcohol can significantly reduce a driver’s reaction time and judgment. When blood alcohol levels rise well above the legal limit, the risk of losing control of a vehicle increases sharply.
Late-night and early-morning hours often see fewer cars on the road, which can lead some drivers to take greater risks. High speeds combined with impairment can result in serious injuries during a crash.
DUI-related collisions frequently lead to felony charges when another person is seriously hurt. The severity of injuries often depends on speed, impact angle, and whether safety restraints were used.
