Frequently Asked Questions
Do rollovers happen more commonly on certain types of roads?
Yes. They are more common on roads where vehicles travel at higher speeds, including streets with wide lanes or limited traffic control, where a sudden swerve or loss of control is more likely to tip a vehicle.
What injuries are typical in a rollover crash?
Occupants can suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries, especially if they are thrown against the roof or doors as the vehicle rolls. Injury severity usually depends on seatbelt use and whether anyone is ejected.
What usually causes a vehicle to roll over?
A rollover can start with a sharp steering move, a tire blowout, striking a curb or object at an angle, or losing control at speed. Taller vehicles with a higher center of gravity are more prone to tipping.
Why do rollover crashes usually cause more serious harm than other crash types?
A rolling vehicle can strike the ground and the surrounding roadway multiple times, and unbelted occupants risk being thrown inside the cabin or ejected entirely, which raises the chance of a serious injury.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Kokomo, IN
If you're involved in a rollover, stay as still as possible until you can assess whether you're hurt, and avoid trying to move anyone who complains of neck or back pain unless there's immediate danger. Call 911 even if injuries seem minor, since symptoms like concussions or internal injuries can take hours to show up. Get checked out by a doctor the same day if you can, and keep records of any medical visits. If another vehicle was involved and left the scene, try to note any details you can, color, make, direction of travel, without putting yourself at risk, and let police gather the rest through their investigation.
