KRONENWETTER, Marathon County, Wis., Nov. 6, 2026 — A worker died on Wednesday, November 4, after becoming trapped in a silo gate at an asphalt company in Kronenwetter.

Officers, first responders, and the Riverside Fire Department were called to American Asphalt on Happy Hollow Rd. at about 10:19 a.m. after a report that an employee was stuck in a silo gate and unresponsive. Responders learned a 47-year-old man had reportedly been checking conditions inside one of the silos when he became caught between the gate's doors.

Crews gave the man medical care at the scene, but he died of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, according to the police department.

Officials said a preliminary investigation indicates the incident does not appear to be criminal. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened its own investigation into the death, and media questions about that inquiry are being directed to OSHA's Appleton office.

Our sympathies are with the family of the person who lost their life.
