Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most car-bicycle collisions happen?
Many happen at intersections or on roads where cyclists and vehicles travel in the same direction with little separation, similar to this crash on a shared stretch of highway.
What is "dooring" and why is it dangerous?
Dooring happens when someone opens a parked car door into the path of an oncoming cyclist, giving the rider little time to react and usually causing a fall or collision with passing traffic.
How can cyclists stay safer in traffic?
Riding predictably, using lights and reflective gear, and choosing routes with wider shoulders or bike lanes can help cyclists stay visible to drivers, especially on rural highways.
What should a cyclist do after a crash with a car?
Call 911, stay at the scene until authorities arrive, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some impacts cause delayed symptoms.
What to Do After a Bicycle Accident in La Grand Twp, Minnesota
Anyone involved in a bicycle crash should get checked by a medical provider as soon as possible, even if pain doesn't show up right away. Documenting the scene, including the bike, any damage, and the road conditions, can help later if questions arise about how the crash happened. It's also worth following up with the responding agency to get a copy of the official report once it's available. Family members of someone recovering from a serious injury may want to keep a simple log of medical visits and expenses, which can make navigating insurance conversations easier down the road.
