Frequently Asked Questions
Does impairment factor into fatal crashes like this one?
Alcohol or drug impairment is a factor in a large share of fatal crashes nationwide, though investigators have not said whether it played any role here. Toxicology results, when sought, typically take weeks to come back.
Where do fatal crashes like this tend to happen?
Intersections are common sites for fatal collisions because vehicles cross paths at speed, often with only a signal or stop sign separating them. Failure to yield or a missed signal can turn a routine intersection into a serious crash scene.
What makes a crash more likely to be deadly?
Factors include the speed of the vehicles involved, the angle of impact, and whether occupants were wearing seat belts. A direct side impact, as in a T-bone style crash, can be especially dangerous for the occupant closest to the point of collision.
How much does speed affect whether someone survives a crash?
Higher speeds mean more force at impact and less time for a driver to react or brake. Even a modest reduction in speed can significantly improve the odds of survival in a collision.
What to Do After an Intersection Crash in La Puente, CA
If you're involved in an intersection crash, try to move to a safe area if possible and call 911 right away. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since injuries like whiplash or internal bruising don't always show symptoms immediately.
Make sure to exchange information with the other driver and get contact details from any witnesses nearby. If officers respond, ask how to obtain a copy of the official report once it's completed. Photographs of the vehicles, the intersection, and any visible damage can help later, whether for insurance purposes or simply to have an accurate record of what happened.
Take time to rest and allow yourself to process the experience. A crash, even a minor one, can be stressful, and it's normal to need a few days to feel steady again.
