LAKE WALES, Polk County, Fla., Sept. 24, 2026 — Two people died early Thursday morning, September 24, in a crash between a dump truck and a car on State Road 60 west of Lake Wales, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The collision happened at State Road 60 and Acuff Road. Deputies were dispatched around 4:22 a.m.
Westbound SR 60 remained closed at the time of the report. Eastbound lanes were open.
The sheriff's office said the two vehicles involved were a dump truck and a dark-colored car. Two fatalities were confirmed.
