Derby, KS (August 21, 2026) – Ricky C. Elsen, 31, of Wichita, was killed on Thursday, August 20, after a northbound vehicle struck him while he was performing landscape work on S Rock Road. The crash occurred in the 100-200 block near the intersection of Madison Avenue and N Rock Road at about 9:40 a.m.
Elsen was taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition before later dying from his injuries. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, according to police.
A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team assisted with determining what led to the wreck. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing.
