How Lane Changes Can Contribute to Bus and Passenger Vehicle Accidents
Bus-related accidents often occur when vehicles change lanes or attempt turns in areas with heavy traffic movement. Large transit buses require more space to maneuver and may have different stopping distances than smaller passenger vehicles.
Road designs that include jug handles, merge points, and turning connections can create situations where drivers must make quick decisions. When a motorist moves across lanes unexpectedly, nearby traffic may have little time to adjust. Visibility, traffic volume, roadway markings, and driver attention can all influence how safely vehicles navigate these areas.
After an accident involving a bus, investigators commonly review vehicle positions, traffic patterns, witness statements, and roadway conditions. These details can help provide a clearer picture of how the sequence of events unfolded and whether any contributing factors were present.
