Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in pedestrian-involved car accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles often suffer broken bones, head and spinal injuries, and internal trauma. Severity usually depends on vehicle speed and point of impact.
What typically causes hit-and-run crashes?
Drivers may flee due to lack of insurance, outstanding warrants, intoxication, or panic. Distraction and failure to yield are also common factors in the initial collision.
How does vehicle speed affect the outcome of a crash involving a pedestrian?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, raising the likelihood of severe or fatal injury even in short distances.
Why is distracted driving particularly dangerous near roadways and crossings?
A driver who looks away from the road for even a few seconds can miss a person crossing, especially in low light or before sunrise, when visibility is already reduced.
