What Happens When a Hit-and-Run Driver Is Arrested in Nevada?
In Nevada, leaving the scene of a crash that results in injury is a serious criminal offense. When a driver flees and is later caught, they typically face hit-and-run charges in addition to any other violations identified at the time of arrest, such as DUI. The combination of these charges can result in significant penalties, including prison time and permanent loss of driving privileges.
Nevada’s DUI laws apply regardless of the type of vehicle involved or the time of day the offense occurs. Nighttime impaired driving is particularly dangerous near high-traffic areas like the Las Vegas Strip, where pedestrians are present around the clock. When an impaired driver leaves a marked lane and strikes a person on a sidewalk, the case is often treated with the highest level of seriousness by prosecutors.
