Laguna Niguel, CA (September 6, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision was reported on northbound State Route 73 just south of Aliso Creek Road at about 10:38 a.m. on Friday, September 4.
Initial CHP entries described two vehicles facing sideways and blocking the middle lanes. Later notes referenced multiple sedans, an SUV, a Porsche with front-end damage, and a Kia sedan.
Emergency units temporarily blocked lanes three and four while tow trucks were requested. The dispatch record was upgraded from unknown injuries to a call requiring medical assistance.
Authorities continue investigating the crash. We hope anyone injured makes a full recovery.
Sideways Vehicles Can Create Wider Freeway Lane Blockages
A vehicle stopped sideways can occupy more roadway space than one facing the normal direction of travel. That position may force traffic to merge across several lanes while crews establish a safe working zone.
Front-end damage can also leave a vehicle unable to move under its own power. Tow truck operators may need extra space to approach, secure, and reposition it before clearing the travel lanes.
Freeway congestion can persist even after the wreck is cleared because traffic has already backed up behind the blockage. Vehicle position, lane width, debris, towing access, and traffic volume all influence how quickly normal movement returns.
