Why Late-Night Apartment Fires Can Be Deadly
Late-night apartment fires can be especially dangerous because many residents may be asleep when smoke begins to spread. Even a fire contained to one unit can produce heat, smoke, and toxic gases that move quickly through nearby spaces. People may have only a short time to wake up and leave safely.
Apartment buildings can also create extra challenges because hallways, stairwells, and shared walls may affect how smoke travels. Investigators may review where the fire started, smoke alarm activity, electrical systems, heating sources, and building damage. These details can help explain how the fire developed and why it became fatal.
