Why Late-Night Driving Can Increase Risks for Teen Drivers
Late-night driving can present added dangers, especially for younger drivers with limited experience behind the wheel. Reduced visibility, fatigue, and lower reaction times may make it harder to avoid hazards or maintain control of a vehicle. Roads can also be less populated late at night, which sometimes leads drivers to travel at higher speeds.
Teen passengers may create additional distractions inside a vehicle. Loud conversations, movement inside the car, or sudden changes in attention can affect decision-making during critical moments. Roadway design and lighting may also affect how quickly a driver notices curves, trees, or other obstacles nearby.
After serious nighttime roadway crashes, investigators often review speed, vehicle movement, and witness accounts to better determine how the chain of events unfolded.
