Why Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Often Require Extended Investigations
Pedestrian crashes can present unique challenges when the driver involved leaves the scene. Without the driver present, investigators often rely on physical evidence from the roadway and the vehicle involved.
Damage patterns on the vehicle, debris left at the scene, and the location of the impact can help clarify how the crash occurred. These details may also help determine the direction the vehicle was traveling and its speed at the time of impact.
Nearby security cameras, traffic cameras, and witness statements may also provide valuable information. In many cases, these sources help investigators piece together the events leading up to the collision and identify the driver responsible.
