LEWISBURG, Marshall County, Tenn., Oct. 27, 2026 — A driver had to be cut from a medical transport van Monday afternoon, October 26, after the vehicle was struck by a train on Anes Station Road in Marshall County. The van went down a steep embankment after impact, according to the Farmington Fire Department.
Farmington Fire said crews responded to the tracks around 1 p.m. along with several other agencies. Responders found that a northbound CSX train had hit the van and that it had traveled down the embankment. The first firefighter on scene reportedly found the driver trapped inside.
Rescue crews used extrication tools to cut an opening in the van large enough to remove the driver, the department reported. A basket attached to a rope pulley system was then used to raise the driver up the embankment, where a medical helicopter was waiting. The driver was flown to a hospital for treatment.
Farmington Fire did not release the driver's condition. The department said the driver remained conscious and was talking with rescue crews throughout the extrication.
CSX officers and the railroad's command center moved the train after the crash and worked to slow other train traffic in the area so crews could safely clear the van from the embankment. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do weather and road conditions affect the risk of a crash like this?
Wet, icy, or poorly marked crossings can reduce visibility and increase stopping distance for both vehicles and trains, making it harder for drivers to react in time near railroad tracks.
Where do most vehicle-train collisions happen?
Many occur at crossings with limited visibility or minimal warning signals, often in rural areas where a driver may not expect oncoming train traffic.
What to Do After a Train Crash in Lewisburg, TN
If you're involved in a crash near railroad tracks, you should get checked by medical personnel even if injuries aren't immediately obvious, since the jolt of impact can cause internal injuries that take time to show symptoms. Stay as far from the tracks as safely possible until crews confirm the area is clear. Keep copies of any incident reports from the responding fire department or railroad police, and follow up with your own doctor in the days after the crash for a full evaluation.
