Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if an oncoming car drifts into my lane?
Slow down and move right toward the shoulder if possible, rather than swerving hard left into oncoming traffic. Sounding the horn and flashing headlights can help alert the other driver before impact.
What injuries are common in head-on crashes?
Head-on collisions often cause chest and head trauma, broken bones, and spinal injuries, since both vehicles' speeds combine on impact. Seat belts and airbags reduce but don't eliminate this risk.
What usually causes head-on collisions?
Common causes include a driver drifting across the center line, passing improperly, falling asleep, or losing control on a curve. Investigators typically look at speed, lane position, and road conditions to determine what happened.
What to Do After a Head-On Crash in Lincoln, CA
If you're involved in a head-on crash, call 911 immediately and stay in a safe location away from traffic if you're able to move. Even if injuries seem minor at first, get checked by a medical professional, since adrenaline can mask pain from internal injuries or concussions. Take photos of the vehicles, the road, and any visible damage if it's safe to do so, and get the names of any witnesses nearby. Once you're able, file a report with local law enforcement and follow up with your insurance company to document the incident while details are fresh.
