Lincoln Co, WV (January 8, 2026) – A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred late Monday morning on Dairy Road near Salt Rock in the West Hamlin area, claiming the life of a local woman and prompting a response from state and county agencies.
According to the West Virginia State Police, the collision took place just before noon and involved a privately operated vehicle and a West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) mechanics truck. Investigators say 47-year-old Rachel Nelson of Midkiff was traveling northbound when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the state-operated truck, which was actively in service at the time.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Nelson was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the WVDOH truck declined medical transport after being evaluated by EMS.
Following the crash, Dairy Road was closed to traffic and vehicles were rerouted around Route 10. Authorities have since reopened the roadway. The incident remains under investigation.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Rachel Nelson during this difficult time.
