LINCOLN, Lancaster County, Neb., Oct. 27, 2026 — A three-vehicle crash on Highway 77 in southwest Lincoln sent two people to the hospital Monday morning, October 26, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. The highway was closed in both directions for nearly two hours while crews worked the scene.
The crash happened around 6:39 a.m. on Highway 77 between West Old Cheney Road and Rosa Parks Way, state troopers said. A man from Oklahoma driving a GMC Sierra 2500 was reportedly headed southbound when his truck crossed the center median into oncoming traffic.
Troopers said the truck hit a Ford Bronco Sport head on, sending it spinning into the median. The GMC then collided with a Ford Escape, and both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch, according to the report. All three vehicles sustained major damage.
Two drivers were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The Oklahoma driver, a 33-year-old man, was cited for driving under revocation and reckless driving.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 77 were shut down for close to two hours as first responders cleared the scene.
The investigation into the crash remains open. Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving dangerous?
Taking attention off the road for even a few seconds can prevent a driver from reacting to a vehicle crossing into their lane or stopping ahead. That delay can turn a close call into a collision.
How do road and weather conditions play into crashes like this?
Wet pavement, glare, or poor visibility can make it harder for a driver to correct course after drifting, and can turn a routine lane departure into a cross-median crash.
What should someone do right after a car accident?
Call 911, move to a safe location if possible, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries aren't immediately obvious. Get a copy of the police report once it's available and document the scene if you're able.
